Just managed to shear one of these whilst reassembling after a duo valve clean and heater matrix flush on a 1994 E300D estate. It's a M3 x 45mm and like a wood screw, but engaging in plastic. Torx/star pan head. Does anyone have a duo valve which is u/s which might provide one ? The duo valve p/n is A0018303884 according to the EPC, for heating only autos (no air con). I would rather keep it original than cobble something with threaded bar or similar.

I have one in bits on the bench from a 140 and it could be the same any chance of a picture of a good screw (not porn)

Hi Malcolm.

Always happy to provide a good screw, but sadly this is a poor one. 48mm in length, and 3mm shank. 3.5mm external thread dia (but it's into plastic, so prob not that critical, although I expect they're all the same). I have checked one from my E280T W124, and they're all too short. The side view of the DV shows why the length is required. The screw passes down the 'column' which has the green fleck on it.
Tak fur hilfe.

That's a shame - I need 48mm, so it's just a bit short. Thanks anyway. I've ordered some pan head allen bolts and nuts on ebay, so should be sorted by the weekend. ****** shut down weeks. Used to hate them when in business - all overhead and no production - and now they get in the way of REAL work on the cars!

Happy New Year to you and all by the way.

I suppose we used to turn it down a bit, but hardly paid for the champagne! I don't have a lot of time for the US lifestyle generally, but their attitude to work and holidays is worthwhile. Rather at variance with UK and especially large bits of Europe (which I enjoy except the lack of work ethic).

Meandering thread - sorry.

Anything 48 mm x 3mm, or 50mm if a bolt and nut would do BUT I have just measured mine and the thread begins at 32mm from the very top of the pan, so your 40mm would still give me 8mm of thread penetration. May I have it therefore? What can I offer in thanks and recompense?

Malcolm

Many thanks for your kind donation of the duo valve screws and the cap. One of the 2 x 40 odd mm ones did the trick perfectly, engaging by several turns although a little shorter than the original and everything is now screwed up again and working. Except..... I still have no significant heat. Starting a thread on this shortly.

Will let you know the outcome of the W126 coil test with the cap in place eventually, but likely to be some weeks before I'm in place again to do it.

The problem with the duo valves is not the little lose valve in the end of the solenoid, it is the solenoid its self that dose get stuck but its hard to make up the new rubber rings to seal them again.

You can test these quite easily.

Just join the center pin to ground and touch a 12v supply wire to either of the 2 outer pins and you will hear the valve operate with a clonk, it should be the same both sides. No loud clonk and the core is stuck in the coil.

You can alternatively fell the pulse from the output pipes when on hot and when on max they give about 3 pulses per second

Thanks for that. Have posted a query already, but following your comments and my results I think the coils must be deficient in some way. They can be felt to jump when 12v is applied externally, but certainly do not pulse when controlled by the car heating system electrickery.
