Mercedes c200 cdi runaway engine !

I had the pleasure of my Mercedes c200 cdi 2005 engine give me a spectacular smoke show last night, i took the key out of ignition but it decided to carry on regardless until the engine stopped....What is the best and worst that could have happened here in terms of damage ? !!!!

Sounds like your turbo bearing has given up the ghost and the engine has run on the engine oil. You could have internal damage, although usually there is none.
Check the engine oil level and remove the pipe from the turbo to check the bearing.
When repair work is carried out the exhaust must be removed and stood up to let the excess oil run out, the entire intake system must be cleaned, and the engine spun over with the injectors out

You were right guys turbo had blown,car is running ok now but engine warning light is on, borrowed a code reader and it says p1408, i believe this is the egr valve, i have cleaned it and put it back on but engine light comes straight back on after knocking it off, will a new egr valve definately cure this as this is the only code being read.
