I've managed to jack up the car without doing too much damage, after first jacking from the wrong point, I've removed all wheel nuts but the wheel doesn't want to come off.

I've given it a good kick, but don't want to force it too much.

Also, in the tool bag alongside jack handle and wheel brace/spanner are some little -what I guess are- electrical contacts ....:?:

Two man job? --crowbar exert pressure to prise it off and lump hammer and block of wood hit it very hard to jarr it free?

As Paul said, few good whacks, but DO NOT use a hammer directly on the wheel use a rubber mallet or soften the blow with some wood, also make sure the car is supported on axle stands or something similar as all the movement will make the car rock on the jack and it will fall off.

An alternate method is to refit the wheel bolts but don't tighten them up fully then take the car off the jack and drive it forwards or backwards a couple of feet.

This is easy,,, just loosen the bolts a touch and drive the car on lock for a few yards

How brave are you? I've used this method in the past, as have others I know. Put all the wheel bolts back in, not tight though .... maybe backed off an 1/8". Start car, put in Drive  move car & STAMP on the brake pedal . I'm NOT suggesting driving down the street like this, just move the car a foot or two at the most. The weight of the car will break the rim from the hub .... Honest. ;) ;)

A common problem if the car hasn't had its alloy wheels removed for a long time. This should be performed as a matter of course during servicing.

Place a sturdy block of wood against the rim and use the heaviest hammer/sledge that you had to hit the wood with.

A slow but heavy impact (say with a sledge hammer) will work better than a fast hard hit with a light hammer such as a claw hammer. If you haven't got a sledge hammer than a heavy object such as a brick could be used.

I would suggest that you have a look at the other wheels as they will require freeing also I suspect.

Don't rely on the jack to support the car when doing this. It is very easy for the jack to collapse if there is any movemenet of the car sideways. Always use axle stands as a minimum and place a safety block to catch the car should it come off those.

Spare fuses probably.

Otherwise, post 6/7 will sort the wheel out.

Thanks all.

Luckily I'm not on the M6 ... but at home.:D

I'll get someone -who knows more about these things than I do- to give me a hand. But I thought I'd ask on here first.

No because the wheel is still centered on the ring in the center, the bolts do not center the wheels as wheels they do with taper bolt

Others above have done similar ...... I don't suppose knocking seven bells out of an alloy with a big hammer (& block of wood) is going to do it any favours either

You have to be very careful when using long bars or a timber joist if the car is on it own jack as they can come off the jack so easily

I did notice that when a car was being serviced at MBS that Colin wipes a touch of grease to the ring that the wheel sit on when cars are being serviced.

Mercedes do not even take the wheels off anymore on a service
