hi guys,,,i just had my car serviced from my usual trusted indie and been advised that my-
" power steering pully pump ,broken /damaging belt"
i have a e270cdi{2003-diesel}..
my questiom is, can this pump be repaired and do i have to purchase complete set,i mean can i buy just the pully.
after spending a lot of money this week on, ball joints and arms and servicing and tyres..
i simply cannot afford to spend any further money on the car till next payday..{4 weeks away}
are these,units expensive and how much can i expect to be charged for labour for replacing this.
thanks for any advice...

The pulley can be removed and it can be replaced. But MB wont sell you one.
Depends on type / model but generally no unless you can get a spare or knackered pump and take the pulley off.
It needs to be pulled off with a special puller (like a bearing puller) and again carefully pressed on. But it can be done - if you can get a spare. Might be easier to replace the pump complete though.

thanks for your helpful replies....local MB dealer have a pully in stock for approx.£18 and i have also been recommended to also buy the pully belt for £57.00{thought that was a bit excessive}..suppose ,overall cheaper than buying the complete pump.......

Definitely. Lucky you have one that is replaceable.
I did check on ebay and cheapest pump (to take one off) was around a hundred £££

The answer is to study the EPC and WIS, read it all then buy a car that is the easiest and cheapest to work on.:rolleyes:
