Does it get louder as your speed increases or just noticeable around 20mph?

No worries, a wild guess it could be a wheel bearing. Long shot, a stone could be caught between the hub backing plate and the brake disc. Or a caliper piston could be jammed and causing the pad to be constantly in contact with the disc. (Unlikely, due to the year)

Have you tried using the specialist finder in the top right to find your nearest independent?

Hopefully, someone with a bit more knowledge will be along soon. It could be anything, any ideas if it is coming from a certain area of the vehicle?

What is your mileage?

Thank you.
The noise seems to come from engine area, doesn't sound like wheel bearing noise like i have heard before, similar to Exhaust blowing. when bonnet up and engine reving its silent. It's only done 59k. Thanks again. Ian

Ml270 2004 reg

Hi, I'm new to this so pleas bear with me. I got a ml270 2004 reg & the pulling power is very poor, lack of power until u doing about 60 miles then it pulles ok i think.what I have done so far: I have replaced the air sensor, I took the car for a diagnostic chek at merc dealers and they come to the conclusion that its either prev cats, intercooler hoses leaking, chek vacuum supply or the turbo, I have removed the precat and checked it, it looks ok. I have taken front bumper of and checked all the hoses and there is no leaks, I haven't checked the vacuum cuz i don't know the location of it or what cheks should I carry, I'm thinking of buyin a new turbo but they r so expensive I want to make sure it's turbo failer before I buy it. Has any1 come a cros this problem before? How do I check the turbo? How do I chek the vacuum and location of it? If is the turbo, does any1 know where I can get a low cost turbo? So far I got quoted £975 from gsf, any help is greatly appriciated, thank you guys.

A "blowing" exhaust sound can be heard when you have a blocked cat. This will only be evident when under load as exhaust volume increases with boost etc. Similarly, a split boost hose will give a "blowing" sound. Only heard under boosted conditions. If you have a trusted offsider, lock your parking brake on hard and get the offsider to put the car in drive and give it some throttle - carefully. This will produce some boost - only need a couple of pounds - and you should be able to determine where any air leak noise is coming from if you are under the bonnet.

Maybe the noise is coming from the diff bearing? I think this is the case for a current topic, regarding an ML rumble.

Hopefully, it will be a split pipe.

filippos - you should start a new thread for your issues if you want responses. It isn't good to hijack someone else's thread.
Seems to me that your MB dealer is not very good at diagnosis. A visit to a reputable indi might be advisable.
Don't go buying a turbo until you have the thing properly diagnosed.
