2006 e220 cdi elegance estate
Hi, I am a new member to this forum and a new mercedes owner. I have recently purchased an e220 cdi elegance estate and aim very pleased with it. The only niggle I have is that I cannot get the parktronic to work, when the car is put in drive or reverse I can hear a sounder and four red led light up (two on right and two on the left) for a few seconds and go off again. When I drive the car into my garage the parktronic does not do anything in forward or reverse. I have checked the fuses and they appear to be ok but I am not too sure if the sensors are broken. Can anyone advise on what I should check.

Regards

Gio

The red lights means you have a system fault, it's turning the system off,

You need to get the fault codes read.....

Probably a broken sensor --- can be vulnerable to water damage-- specifically warns against the use of pressure washers directly aimed at the sensors at close range!!!!!

Hello,
I had exactly the same, which turned out to be one faulty sensor at the front, which causes exactly the same symptoms you describe.

My car was out of warranty, so I paid £120 inc vat to my local indie garage who replaced, painted new sensor to body colour and fitted to car.

Merc wanted £299.00 for same work

So, what I'm saying is if its under warranty, let Merc garage do it, if not, get a good independent garage

Check http://www.mercedesspecialistfinder.co.uk/ for a good Merc independent near you

Hope this helps

I had this problem on the rear and was told it would be a faulty sensor.

If you feel at them the faulty one will most likely feel soft as it has water inside it. Changed the soft one on mine and the system reset and its worked fine since. Mine was a 2003 model so may be different?

Many thanks, I will have a look at the sensors to see if there is anything obvious before I but the bullet and take it for a diagnostic.

Many thanks to you all for replying. This is my first mercedes and I am very nervous about letting by old volvo (1990) go, it has been a good workhorse but I have always wanted a mercedes and thought It was time to treat myself before its too late. I have not had a car with such complicated electronics and comfort and I am hopefully that the electronic parts are of excellent build quality and give me trouble free motoring.

M6 Cab - prior to that, SL63 AMG, A-M V8 Vantage, SL55, SL500 and many more
apparently if you get someone to sit in the car with engine running, foot on brake & have it in drive then reverse, if you are (and you have to be!) very gentle, you will feel each sensor "clicking" - hopefully except for one, and that is probably the source of the fault. Quick, maybe effective (maybe not but at least you will feel you have tried!!!!!)
