Yes well these cars are over 20 yrs old, I changed things like brake pipes, all hoses, springs, 10 yrs ago as It is still cheaper than buying a new car, I am going to do it again this summer. Hope this helps

Look on the bright side, back in the days of mk1 Escorts and the like it would have been the inner wing itself that let go as the entire mac strut made a bid for freedom. Did it 'get' the bonnet?

Try this video how to refers to a R129 but principle is the same if you feel up to it .
Personally I would use better jacking and body support. You may also want to remove the wheel for access but you must then support the lower suspension arm with a jack or blocks to prevent the spring from expanding to much. Best as 2 man job and DO THEM BOTH! while you are at it! Remember to have the car reassembled and resting on its wheels- bounce it up and down a bit too before tightening up that centre bolt.

It would seem that your strut/damper may have almost seized solid to give that mount
such a pounding.

What was the quality of the ride/suspension like ?

All done, not by me but a good friend whose engineering skills are a lot better than mine. No rattles now :)
