Have you noticed that the road A1208 appears often when Mercedes COMAND Sat Nav warn about traffic problems??

It’s actually a short road in Hackney but appears anywhere in the UK! It appears that the Sat Nav generates it when it can’t find a road name - wherever you may be! The only reference I can find on line is to the same problem is with Volvo Sat Navs…..

I wonder if anybody else has spotted this and has an explanation ??

MB do not use their own satnav data but buy it in, I forget which provider. All they do is have the hardware built to display it that is specific to them. So it is reasonable to assume that anyone else using the same GPS dataset will have the same issue..!

Ah -so it's a plan to get me to go to Hackney - bit of a challenge when you live in the Sussex countryside!!

This is an interesting problem and one which I kept meaning to investigate - my other half also has an E Class - an estate of exactly the same vintage and I'm going to see if hers does the same. It happens all over the country....!!

Actually - I'd better throw this into the pot as well:

The Merc Sat Nav thinks that the M3 is "metres cubed" (think about it!!)

And St Albans is "Street Albans"!!

Any advance on those.......??

The Nav on my 2005 SL350 shows a load of red crosses. The handbook suggests they are hospitals but there can't be that many. Maybe NHS establishments including Old Peoples Homes and the like.

Thought the red crosses were showing road works?

id say its a good reason to skip it from the options list and buy a tomtom, if that's the case!

Waze on my phone describes the last letters of my postcode (AU) as astronomical units.

I suspect its a TTS pronunciation issue, same with MB!

Garmin, TomTom, Waze are all better than the built in satnavs provided by any car manufacturer that i have had.

I had a Jaguar with one of the best in-car sat nav, even better than the new Tom Tom I have. I've yet to find a car with a superior unit in it. One of its features was the ability to zoom in and out when stuck in London traffic, I could pin point a route out of the jam without heading down a no through road or one was street. Just used to type in the post code and it would give every number associated with the post code, press the number required and go. I find the SL Sat Nav a right pain and post codes...... Na!

Widening this issue ...

When I ask my in-car system to read my messages, the interpretations i sometimes get are either baffling or hilarious. Normal text shorthand is read out in very weird ways! And with an American accent.

Did anyone ever get this resolved? My 2014 E250 developed this problem after a major command system crash that wiped the whole system. My dealership says my car is the only one in the world with this problem.

SatNav in MB has moved on a bit since 2003  - not saying it is the best ever but I have had no issues worth complaining about in the 5 MBs we have owned.

Yep - except it chews data and if you are not on unlimited........££, screen is relatively small, you have to stick the phone in a holder & connect power every time you get in the car, need a phone holder attached somewhere and dangling wires..... and I believe that it is illegal to touch your phone while incharge of a vehicle.
