Would i be correct in thinking that a new auto dimming door mirror glass would need to come from mb or does anyone have any recommendations, or is it possible to use just the normal heated glass

If you order a non OEM mirror glass, be aware you need to cut the female plug inside the mirror assembly and find which wires operate the heating element for the new mirror glass. The dipping part will not work at all.

This place say they can repair my dipping/heated glass for £45 but the dipping part will not work again. Just as well not bother with either for what good it is.

Incidentally, I emailed asking about a repair and it took over two months for a reply.
In the end I just got this one.

Empty garage, awaiting new toy :)
No problem.

Makes you laugh when those units are brand new from Germany @ £50.00 :)

Then you have other guys on e-bay trying to sell used ones for over £150.00

New member here but feel I should add to this thread. I recently purchased one of the above mirrors from Latvia upon reading this thread, and unfortunately have been very dissapointed. The mirror is far more zoomed in than OEM, is missing the dotted line where the view "pans out" and also seems slightly out of focus to me. I reverted back to my damaged but still functioning OEM mirror immediately as the new one was more distracting. I have contacted the seller to see if I may have a faulty one, but suspect it just the nature of the part. The overall shape of the mirror is not ideal either. ULO (which it came packaged as although was not advertised as) seemed a reputable manufactures so does seem a shame.

It is hard to photograph the out of focus-ness, but hopefully the below image shows the scale issue. New mirror on right, old deteriotated mirror on left.

To follow up I have since discovered that there are "flat" and "aspherical/convex" type mirrors depending on market. I did not know that on modern cars "flat" mirrors were still utilised, and cannot think what RHD market it would be for. Explains why the mirror was cheap as the demand must be non-existent!

I really do not like the flat style so was left with 3 options, buy a non-dimming heated one and rewire the connections, buy a genuine MB part at like £300, or attempt to get another aftermarket part but aspherical.

I have bitten the bullet and gone for this aftermarket part at £120 with discount. (https://www.carparts4less.co.uk/search/490221080) I am planning to keep the car a long time so if correct IMO it is worthwhile. Fingers crossed.....

P.S if anyone wants a cheap "flat" mirror I doubt returning it to Latvia is a worthwhile option....
