OK, thanks for everyone's help so far, however, my amp is gone I think, I can't be quite sure but will have to take their word that it's knackered. So has anyone got an amp for sale?

I accept that my original budget for sorting this was unrealistic.

Perhaps he’s on holiday, people should be allowed some work / life balance

Use that same number for Comand and ask for Richard instead.
He is just as capable as Alfie and can advise accordingly.

I hadn't realized you were a garage/specialist either, again I'm sorry.

This whole business is beginning to get me down really, having no stereo is terrible on a journey up the motorway. I have ordered another amp to try, if I have no luck with that can I book it in for you to see what you can do with it?

My stereo has been fixed!! After my third faulty amplifier, (why do people bother, they must know it's going to be sent back?) I took the car to Alfie today and he's sorted it for the agreed sum, that is despite the fact he had to mess about removing a hands free kit that some Muppet had done a poor job of fitting, it was interfering with the front speakers.

It sounds really good, much better than before it broke, and the whole experience was very pleasant. I thoroughly recommend the guys at Command in Lightwater, they know their stuff and are also very nice.

My stereo still sounds great, however my radio reception (pre existing) is still poor. It's odd because some stations are better than others, Radio X is OK, but Radio 4 isn't, hissy and fluttery. I've tried Alfie but he's probably busy so before I get to bother him I thought I'd ask you guys if you have any ideas? Cheers

Just to add, the reception has been poor since I bought the car, I wasn't expecting the Amp repair to help it.

I think there is a common issue with the antenna amp playing up, I think its cheap and fairly easy. I might be wrong and off on a tangent thinking about a different model

W211’s suffered from rear screen antenna failure requiring a new screen. I think quite a few models suffer from antenna pre-amp failures so worth a punt

Cheers, it is intermittent, sometimes the reception is OK, other times not.

Yep, my first thoughts would be antenna amp.

Your car has got an old tracker on it which has an antenna . It is possible that this is interfering with the signal. I would probably disconnect this first if its not needed or used. email me from the same email address you used before and I will let you know where the tracker is.
