An ancient Ford Anglia. Really my brothers, but he was not yet 17 & I could get insurance through Endslie the student insurance company and only pay for 6 months at a time. It was a wreck, full of holes that we patched with large amounts of filler. Didn't do any welding, as there was nothing good enough to weld to. Cost us £25. Drove it till it died. First one I bought was a Mk2 Cortina to get me to teaching practice in West Wales. Had a bench front seat that was kn@kered. Had to wedge an old suitcase between the back & front seat to keep it upright. Used nearly as much oil as petrol. This one cost me £200, but I got my money back when I sold it 5 months later.

First car I bought was a 1931 Austin 7, bought while I was recovering from a motorcycle accident and had decided I wanted more metal around me. I did it up but never used it, bought for £12 and sold for £15. I then went to the motor auction and bought a 1954 Ford Consul for £16, bald tyres and a dodgy mcpherson strut on NSF, guy at work had an old zepher in his garden so got the strut off that and it fitted, used it for a year ok, just had to be careful in the wet because of the tyres.
I think I remember that third party insurance was about £3.50, can't remember how much the tax was.

Mine was a 1939 Ford Prefect, 6 volt electrics, no heater and rod brakes, delighted at the time but when I got my second car a 1950 Hillman Minx it was like driving a rolls in comparison. Independent front suspension, hydraulic brakes and a heater!

1953 split screen Morris Minor. RAF 512.
Used nearly as much oil as it did petrol.
Drove it from Cornwall to London on L plates, "supervised" by an American hitch-hiker, then sold it to him at the same price I'd paid(£15).

Second car was a Mini van with no first gear, bought for £25 from an Aussie couple who were going home.
Third was a 1959 Rover 105S for £45.
After that, I've lost track.

Best car was an Opel Ascona 2.0S, mainly because it was a company car, and came with unlimited free petrol.

1972 Volkswagen Beetle 1300cc rustbucket, I think it was YKH556L. Spent months getting rid of the rustand bolting the wings back on only for the engine to pack in after about 6 months. Replaced it with a 1982 Nissan Micra that I drove all over the country and it never skipped a beat.

Lasted all of 3 days Andy when the gearstick literally came out in my hand!
Replaced by a rather ‘lovely’ Ford Cortina 1600 in disgusting yellow with black velour seats...
