Good question!

In my first ever job, I worked for a company operating WW2 era cargo aircraft. All piston engines and all running 105 octane Avgas, which was stored in a big tank outside my office window. Now, we were allowed a certain amount per week for engine testing (and a 39 litre radial engine burns quite a bit...) so when the test was finished, we would drain out the unburnt fuel and not return it.

We also had a vehicle proving track on site where Scorpion light tanks used to get tested.

I worked in the MRO facility so we had full engine workshops...

Add one to the other, include young men and you had an instant BTCC World Rally Formula One Deathmatch.

I vaguely recall a Mini crisping up its rings first, we stripped the head out and the rings were corroding away at the edges. Next was a Pug 205 that lasted about half an hour before the same. By the end of my time there we had seen way more old cheap car engines than aeroengines go through the shop!

Does the higher octane increase combustion temps? Imagine doing these now with modern health and safety.

hey presto done and dusted for 8am. :)

That sounds like incredible fun.

So you will have seen a few Merlins?

Prefer the open road view. Had a little play with an Aston Martin I did not recognise and it did not have a model badge, I was driving so no photo but today I found it (2nd photo) was the new 2019 Vantage, looked superb really wide attracted a lot of attention. I passed 2x DB9 and they did not come close to it in looks on the road!

Used to have a C63...
I do like the current AM line-up, and I think a nice pairing borrowing AMG powertains.

Always, always loved AM anyway. For me nothing else comes remotely close :D

They’re much much better appreciated from afar...

Hopefully the AMG assistance will alter that for the better!
Unless they’re supplying the rubber seals as well as pretty much everything else it will still be a bag of bolts (a pretty bag of bolts, but still a bag of bolts)

The sea wall is just 500 yards from our front door. Well, that was until storm Hannah bought it an awful lot closer last night.:(

Set about removing rust and treating the metal with rust converter. This is a common fault with these cars, just need to get some 3M double sided tape and some silicone and paint to finish the job. Sorry about the dodgy pictures...
