Thanks for all the extra posts, I hadn't seen them as for some reason the ended up in the junk mail. The information has been very useful.

I was looking at the fuel consumption of the blue something? engines and the economy seems amazing - if its true, I am averaging about 60 mpg with my 203, even 70 mpg + on our trip to Scotland but a do drive a bit carefully so I am wondering whether the 204 will give me any improvement as economy is what I'm about.

I am still managing to repair anything that has come my way so far but I am 80 so I don't know for how much longer.

Thanks again for all your help.

Peter

Thanks for that. The figures given are dramatically different so I take it they are not proven.

If you're squeezing 70mpg from your 203, you're not going to better that with the 204.

I can understand the rationale of going from a car that returns, say, 40mpg to one that returns 70mpg. But from an economy perspective I cannot see a valid argument for changing one that is already doing 70mpg for one that might eke out another couple of mpg. The principle of diminishing returns enters the equation.

If there are also other reasons for changing - ie. wear and tear, later model with more features, lower tax/insurance, etc, then a swap makes more sense.

More features definitely not, there's enough to go wrong now. The published fuel consumption figures of the 204 are substantially higher than the published figures for mine but 204 owners experience seems to say otherwise, if that is so I shall probably not be changing it.

I only paid £490 for this one with a few problems which I have now fixed, well most of them anyway. It still looses turbo boost over 2000 rpm but for the way I drive that is plenty, its a manual and will do 70 mph in 6th at 2000 rpm. I rarely drive over 60 mph or 2000 rpm anyway.

I think the cat is partially blocked, I might try and sort it one day but it will satisfactorily go up at least 95% of hills as it is and I drove most of the way to Scotland in 6th, it has such terrific low down torque.

The body is a bit tatty around the rear wings but I intend to sort that out while we still have some nice weather.

Thanks once again for all your input it has been most helpful
