Funny thing is water pump is switched off on cold starts to aid warm up times , but it's still takes longer than any car I've owned with healthy thermostats .

not really . just like to be pre informed how things work/might not work and maybe how to get over any issues . i read with interest that DPF regen does not get all the soot out . and i am really interested in how to get over that if and when . maybe i can chuck it in the barby and wait for it to start changing color, well "cooked" ,let it cool and blow it out ? ever hopeful .. also looking at understanding how best to deal with inlet manifold flaps and avoiding associated costs . also stopping egr from seizing up and the costs that come with that . i dont mind a few gaskets and seals .i have seen egr valves run at over a grand on some machines as actuation motor gets shaxxxd when they seize and my experience is on a diesel, they will . i stand to be corrected ref benz

Does any know if a dodgy air filter (partially blocked) would have any effect on the catalyst temperature? Reason I asked is I have been having issues with cat temp sensors code coming on here and there. Last week the car was serviced and the guy said the air filter was bad. Since then the car hasn't gone into limp mode nor has the code came back? Touch wood (tapping my head)

Indication into what do you think?
I have the water pump replaced last year as it started leaking. Grangemouth do waterpumps for about 120 pound I think.

Is that just on initial warm up though? I thought it was normal that as thermostat opened for first time then the temperature would drop down a little as the cold water mixes with the hot. Mine always goes straight up to 98 in about 2 or 3 minutes and then as the thermostat opens it drops down very quickly to 90ish. Has always done that since I put a brand new MB thermostat in and all my other mercs have done that... then slowly creeps up to running temp and maintains it there.
