Thought the vacuum line to brake booster it leaks brake fluid in to the engine .Come on.

Can it still get into the engine on a diesel as they have a driven pump to create vacuum rather than the conventional pipe connection to inlet manifold a petrol engine would have.

I suspect it would end up in the sump,

I had a Mini years ago that had a servo seal fail. Clouds of white smoke everyone the brake pedal pushed.
Can't happen the same on a diesel.

I appreciate everyone's opinion, but my worry is I'll be paying out for work done for eliminating potential problems.

Start with the breather unit on the back of the cylinder head.
Remove it and clean it up then and suck on the pipe connection, you should be able to feel the internal diaphragm close and block off any more air coming through... if it doesn't then replace it.
I got one for my om642 in my Jeep from euspares.co .uk for under £30

So as its a diesel engine it shouldn't be an expensive fix?

Er ... isn't that what we all do if we can't fix things ourselves?
Kinda preventive maintenance?
