r320 cdi 4trak problem

wifes car, loud banging from front near side transiting from 60 to 70 mph nothing loose or worn in terms of wheel bearing drive shafts suspension etc which can be seen and my merc indy is mystified
can any body help with advice,

Hallo and thank you, Yes it only happens at between 60/70 mph , there is no discernible shake ,wobble or hesitation,
the sound is like a hammer hitting steel, very regularly, does not increase with speed and stops when stopped (obviously)
but if the car is driven at 60 mph or less it does not recur.
