And there’s another town I won’t bother driving into!

On the plus side, the park & ride is excellent there.

How do you enforce that? Some cars don't have start/stop and on my current car, it doesn't kick in until all sorts of parameters are met. Perhaps while they're walking through the queues of traffic slapping fines out, they can deal with all the people who think it's perfectly acceptable to throw their rubbish out of the window, or using their phones, or putting their make-up on, etc, etc.

Smart + others :)
Not enforceable, as above, so many parameters to be met for it to work. How do they know that you haven’t just started your journey and haven’t exceeded 25kmh for example. Same as noise cameras, how will it know your car is making the noise or the one traveling in the opposite direction.

I don't think they're talking about "stop start systems" they're talking about people just sat in the cars with the engines running - hence my comment above about making a fortune at the taxi rank. Stop start systems don't work for them as they're sat so long the engine starts again

It’s surprising how many people do sit in cars and leave the engine idling, usually those that aren’t paying for their own fuel I might add, it does need to stop (forgive the pun)

Has nothing to do with stop start systems. Its all about if you are parked up waiting then you are to switch off your engine.

They have had this in Norwich for over 18 months, started with a 6 month period of just warning drivers, not ticketing them, but then switched to enforcement. Has been perfectly enforceable there, so no reason it can't be in York.

Upsets those who want to run their aircon or heating, but apparently they haven't had a kick back against it.

I heard a bit of a rant by Nigel Havers of all people on R4 about all the high end cars parked in that there smoke with their engines running. He would tap on the window and ask them to turn it off, some were polite and others gave him an earful. In reality he's right as Rule 123 already covers this:

No one should have their engine idling when parked anyway so I dont see why people are complaining. This has nothing to do with stop/start.

I wish technology could give us an indicator as to how long we will have to wait at train crossings certain complicated traffic lights etc.

There has to be an optimum idling time.
