Hi John, I can't remember who ECP is - sounds like a mouthwash - do you have a link to this oil please?

Unless you really want the Shell oil, the above post is the oil I'd be buying. Great value.

Tempted by both the OP and The_Dons "lube cube" link..

That said.. I just paid a fortune for 8 litres of Castrol Edge Titanium 0W30 -- mainly because that's what was put in the engine all along and somebody mentioned here, that lower values if a lot of driving is shorter journeys. (Perhaps that is just diesel)

Why do I need this one specifically. I mean, what I have and what you are proposing both are MB-Approved. But they are different grades. Mine is 0W30, more expensive.

I was lead to believe that for shorter runs the lower numbers flow easier in a cooler engine and thus better for engine?

It seems hard to get a definitive answer.

It is OEM MB oil so will be fit for purpose, you don't specifically need it but it is what MB would use

The funny this is all the MB services on my car were 0W30 - which is why the saga continues for me. I don't doubt you.

0W and 5W are fine , but you will find the 0W will be thinner than 5W at cold and warming up temperatures so will be less drag thus promote some efficency during these times .

Less drag is good enough for me and my 190k motor. They say oil is cheap and metal is expensive afterall.

At 190k I'd be using something a little thicker, not thinner.

There does appear to be some method to this madness and I guess it makes sense.

My indy (MBS) advised 5w/40 for higher mileage engines.
I use the MB branded 5w/40 after using Petronas and Mobil previously.
