Dad was on HMNZS Waikato - now a divers playground in the bay of Islands off the NZ coast.

I flew up to the Bay of Islands back in the early 80s in a Grumman Goose Seaplane (SeaBee Air). A wonderful day out, hitched a ride doing a mail run to ?Victoria? - got to walk around town for a couple of hours (very accommodating pilot), but the thrill of sitting in the right hand seat for the take offs n landings was unforgettable

Ditto recommend MBS if something is beyond you, you don't have the tools or you just want a chat......

As to the maritime side, apart from FIL serving his time (and in the Flaklands) my experience is limited to long days with the navy at Filton (of all places) working with the design team on the carrier's nearly 20 years ago now (oh I may have also walked under a nuclear sub at Barrow )

I'd say you're better with a "post MOT" check - you can get the MOT tester to check your car for ~£30 and if it passes - happy days - if it doesn't give MBS a call
