Hi All, just wondering if anyone can help me with my problem, My 2003 E200 1.8 Kompressor has failed its emissions test. Engine management light has been on for a few weeks before the test, the fault codes pointed to faulty lambda sensors, I ordeded two new lambda sensors from mercedes and fitted them but after a few miles engine light came on, My mechanic advised me to change the catalytic convertor which I did but fault code still reading the same, Dont want to carry it to a Mercedes main dealer as they seem very expensive, Any Help or advice is very much appreciated. Thanks, Andrew.:)

You have the process backwards - you are spending money on "downstream" components being killed by a problem in air/fuel/ignition - what were the codes?

Any driveablility problems?

Hi, thanks for all the replies, I,m in Dublin, Ireland, At low idle CO was 3.21, at high idle lambda was 0.901 and CO was 3.49, I cant seem to find the fault codes, I will put them up when I get them, cheers

hello.

those figures tell us that your engine is running extremely rich. possibly the cat would work ok if it was not so rich.

causes could be many and varied, but maf sensor is strong possibility. more unusual faults could be high fuel pressure or poor contacts at the (new) upstream lambda probe.

basically loads of possible problems - we need to plug you in dear sir.

Thanks for your suggestions Alexander Patient. I'll get it plugged in again on Monday to see what comes up.

pay attention to all the live data values - o2 sensor, maf and self adaptation short term and adopted long term values particularly.

Dont forget the EVAP canister purge system it could be allowing petrol vapour into the intake system.
Def running rich

Hi all, got this problem sorted eventually, some vacuum pipes at the back of the engine were damaged causing the air intake to be all messed up, small enough problem in the end, just tricky to find, Thanks for all your advice.

Hi k sideway I'd suggest starting a new thread and try and include as much detail as possible. Loads of very knowledgeable people on here who will help.
