My first post & I’m in trouble with the roof down & the windows & central locking not operating & the electric seat movement has also stopped working too. The car starts & runs fine. I’ve been driving around all day with the roof & windows down (& it’s been up when parked & came back down again ok.) but when I came home, I’m stuck as nothing will go back up & the car won’t lock.

I’ve accessed the boot using the emergency key & Ive checked that the luggage compartment cover appears to be correctly in place with the micro switch engaged.

I’ve also opened the fuse box in the boot & checked that the 40 amp fuse (num 13 on diagram) designated as soft top roof, is intact.

Any ideas ?

Thank God it’s going to be dry tonight.

wild guess would be a SAM unit failed , the seats could be the micro switch on the tilt mechanism , it can break off , it stops the seat electrics working but in any case a star session will be the only way of nailing it down for certain pal

Thanks Bembo.
Since all the failures happened at once, it suggests that they’re likely to be interconnected & since none of the individual fuses appear to have blown, then it could be some control sensor.

I’m starting to wonder if all the components may be in the boot fuse box ( too dark to check tonight).

Hi Paul

It does sound like something has blown fuse wise. When you try and put the roof back up again, does the roof switch flash at all?

No - nothing - it’s as if the roof switch ( as well as windows, boot release & rear headrest switches) are all dead - no lights, clicks or anything.
The probability that each of those fuses has blown separately & in unison is impossible ( & I’ve checked them) but they are interconnected in some way.

The roof initialisation process drops the windows, puts down the headrests & also won’t work if the boot is not closed.

I’m about to disconnect the battery for 30 mins to see if that might reset a glitch but if that fails, looks like a visit to an ( independent) Merc specialist.

Everything was working perfectly yesterday - can’t think of anything that might have caused it other than perhaps one too many rides over the proliferation of sleeping policemen that we have in Swansea - perhaps that may have shaken something loose but I’m not a boy racer & I drive over them carefully.

Sounds like you have lost a relay that supplies that bank of fuses.
Or a fuse to supplies power to the relay.

A quick check of the wiring diag/fuse/relay assignment should point you/them in the right direction.

UPDATE.
Just gone to car after leaving it overnight & this morning when I started it, the roof operating light flickered, so I tried it. It still doesn’t work but I can now hear it trying to open but the roof cover won’t lift.

The windows still won’t work & the boot won’t open via the switch but I can open it via the emergency key.

Second Update - It’s working again !

Don’t know if there is much shared learning for others to benefit from but it all appears to be working again but I have no idea why.

Yesterday I went through all the emergency roof raising procedures as stated in the handbook ( very fiddly ) but still wouldn't work automatically.

This morning I drove the car & discovered that the windows would now work & so tried the roof & today my surprise it now works.

Learning Points:

Manual roof operation can be done but it’s a pain.

I’d washed the car a few days earlier with a pressure washer - Could there have been water ingress which affected the SAM ?

Thanks for the all replies & suggestions to my post.

Regards

Paul
