Hi, can anyone tell me which tool I need to remove my oil filter cap on Mercedes CLS 350 W218. I have seen some online stating 78mm x 14 flutes, 74.5mm x 14 flutes and 84mm x 14 flutes. Thanks in advance for any help given.

Dont you have a cartridge oil filter on your engine ?, and not a spin off filter? most filters i see for your car show up as cartridge .But pop in to mercedes dealership to be sure you get the right one .But you can remove your old one first and check it , just count the flats .Or pick up a universal oil filter wrench .

Dear CLS 350 (SHOOTING BRAKE ) OWNERS, this is my first venture onto the forum. I have reached that point when I am going to take over servicing of the car myself. I had left this one to the main dealer but decided enough is enough !!

QUESTION - So in relation to the oil filter, am I right in thinking it is an 84mm cup for the filter cap? Any advice on the oil change? I have been doing my T5 VAN and my Saab 900 Turbo for years so fairly familiar with their issues, just not a 3.0L V6 supercar.... yet!!

Thanks for any advice given.

3.0L V6 supercar. ha ha

An oil change is an oil change.

Measure the filter top housing.

Ditto all other comments, measure the top and count the flats (sides). Removal tools used with a good socket set are available readily off the fleabay and Amazon etc for good prices. Get a good one, solid cast type so you don't risk it splitting half way through the job :) ! A good vacuum oil remover is a good investment too if you hate lying on your back ooo err missus!

Dont lock new oil filter in place . Smear oil in the base seal of filter and screw in by hand only no spanner needed to replace it . The engine oil circulating through engine will pull it on even more .
