Rear SAM nightmare

Had a problem with right rear side light and substitute light. Was told by independent Merc garage rear SAM needed changing. Bought 2nd hand one from Ebay, fitted and programmed lights now ok fuel gauge very erratic. Decided SAM unit faulty so garage ordered a reconditioned SAM unit from Merc. Fitted, now right rear light ok, fuel gauge ok BUT left side lights and brake off! Garage ordered another recon unit as test showed no power coming out of SAM to rear left side light, did refit the 2nd hand one from Ebay to check and all lights back on but still fuel gauge problem, hence decided another faulty SAM. Now today have had the 2nd reconditioned SAM unit fitted and still fault on left lights. Garage now ordered brand new SAM unit from Merc. Losing the will to live here can we just have been so unlucky to have so many faulty SAM units or can it be yet something else going wrong. Hair and bank balance disappearing fast!! It's difficult to say without seeing the car. I'd say the issue is programming.

The used Sam may be from a slightly different model and so the fuel sender settings need changing.

The new recon Sam's either aren't being programmed correctly or you have a bad connection somewhere. Maybe a mis placed fuse...

You would expect an independant Merc garage with trained technicians to be able to sort that wouldn't you?

The fuel gauge is working now it's just the left rear lights?

Yes. I just can't swallow the notion that 3 Sam's are faulty.

I guess you will have to see what happens when the new one arrives.
