W204 wont start

Hi everyone having a problem with the c class c200d automatic got in it today and turned the key and would start ,I get all the steering lock noise when the key is in the ignition and all the lights on but when in the last position to start the car there is no crank over , any ideas please .

If it was me, I would start looking at the battery voltage.
It that is OK (> 12.5 volts) I would suggest that you might look at the gear selector position.

That must be in P or N to start the car. I think the selector electrics can play up and possibly the car thinks it is in D or R.
What is displayed on the dashboard regarding the gear position when you turn on the ignition?

Have you checked fuses? 6,7,19 and 27.

When you turn the key to the start position do you get anything at all? A click for example?

Here's another guess:

Turn on the headlights, wait a moment or two, then turn the key to start in the usual way. Do the lights go dim?
If so, the battery is suspect. If not, then discount the battery and start looking furthr afield, as suggested above.

But without more basic information, guesses are all you're going to get. Hopefully one of them might hit the mark.
