Are you talking about the Garmin? You can update the mapping software but maps can only be updated until 60 days after the SD is first used in the car. Only COMAND has 3 years map updates.

Hi All i am new to the forum. I purchased my 16 plate a Class in september last year and the live services on the SD card is due to expire on 29/7. I contacted the dealer who advises that i can purchase a new SD card that will have updated maps and live services for around £100 all in. Is this something new as the threads i have been reading on this matter seems to suggest that you update the SD card? Can anyone advise please?

I purchased a new SD card for £100 from my Mercedes dealer which had updated maps to 2019 as well as 3 years live update (my previous subscription expired in Jul 2019). I have to say I previously had portable TOMTOM with live updates on it which used to cost me £60 per year to update the live subscription. This may have been the easy option but have to say well worth the expense simply slot SD card into slot and worked straightaway.

The latest TomToms are years ahead though, updated by WiFi, free maps updates every 3 months for as long as the model is supported, free speed cameras and free live traffic.
Manufacturer sat navs, COMAND or Garmin have the same problem, whenever a new version is released, the map info for that version was probably collated 6 to 12 months prior to it's release. So they are never up to date.
Add to that, you now have Waze etc on smartphones and manufacturer sats navs only plus point is they look better as built into the car but function is impaired on all levels. Pretty sure Apple Carplay & Android Auto would make all else obsolete, but just this week, BMW announced they are going to charge a yearly fee for them to work in enabled cars. They know if they lose sat nav profit, they'll try and claw it back on whatever takes it's place.

So it looks like there isn't a IOS version of the latest installer app available. I don't have access to a windows operating system and my dealership is incapable of updating the card despite three attempts at doing so (LSH auto Tamworh). Words fail me at this point to try and express how awful they are as a dealership, Only any good at selling you a car and useless at aftercare, servicing and anything that takes a bit of effort). My current Merc is my fourth and most probably my last. Today to add insult to injury the Tom Tom live traffic has expired and neither Mercedes, Garmin or the dealership seem to be capable of renewing it. I was also told that my sat nav came with three years of free updates. If anyone has a link to an IOS version of the latest map updater I would be eternally grateful.

If you have the Garmin, you don't have 3 years (map) updates which would explain why your dealer has failed in 3 attempts?

Thanks, I know that I don't have three years updates, what i should have said was that when the dealership sold me the car they told me that i did, sorry I should have been more specific. The dealership presumably has access to the latest Garmin SD card update software however but they still say they can't update the card.

If your talking about an actual map update, it can only be done within 60 days of the card first being used. After that, the only way to update the actual map is to buy a new SD card.

Manager, you can see information about the latest SD card map status. On the right-hand side,

So certainly refers to map updates and no mention anywhere of having to be done within 60 days.

Unfortunately, Mercedes dealers are clueless about sat navs, good luck!
I still say you need a new SD card to update your maps.

After several days trying to update my card with no effect I have finally found a link to Version 3.0.09 of the download manager :- https://shop.mercedes-benz.com/en-gb/collection/garmin-map-pilot
I hope that this helps you. As normal MB dont make it easy for their customers.

Install Adobe air first and then the MB download manager ( else you get the message " media not found" )

back up card before starting

The download went ok but the system stopped before writing the info .i .e 50% done

I logged out and back into the download manager and it then wrote it ok . Do not remove the card till completed. keep laptop plugged in and switch off " go to sleep after xx minutes"

I thought the Command sat nav was poor but the Garmin one is worse.

When using the voice control most of the time it does not display the correct address but a random 5 or 6 digit number followed by the town name .

Anyone else experienced this as it used to work ok?

Newbie, bought second hand 2016 CLA with Garmin sat nav, finally got round to looking at the instruction manual and thought why not give the update go,
Downloaded Adobe air and the Download manager. Inserted the card and ran the manager. It offered a system update backed up the card and it downloaded.
Once data downloaded it stalled, at this point I restarted the computer and restarted the manager after which it installed the system update.
On inserting the card into the car the system asked if I wanted to link the card, basically it treated it as a brand new card which got me thinking a new card has a 60 day free map update period....

card is in pc now and is happily downloading map update 2020 v14 to replace my 2015 v5

the new operating system looks better, in line with the audio 20 gui, only thing I have noticed is the lack of being able to select a different icon for the vehicle
