Black smoke c220

Hi all I have a 2009 c220 w204

I have found out it doesn’t have a dpf but I noticed the exhaust end is almost black. I haven’t noticed any major smoke on the motorway or similar but there’s defInitely some residue on the back bumper

The car itself runs perfect with no lights on. Is this just common for this spec of car
I noticed a e class with the same engine with dpf was spotless clean but I thought the dpf only affected nox rather then smoke

DPF cars have clean exhausts, non DPF not so much...

Thanks I cleaned the end up and it didn’t take much autosol I’ll keep a watch out in future

Might be worth getting the emissions and the like checked. Injectors might not be working their best either.

To be honest how it performs I don’t think there’s any issues it’s pretty rapid

I have mot soon so will see what they say

It's a non DPF diesel so black smoke is the norm. You will be cleaning the bumper and exhaust top regularly

I have a similar car and a black exhaust tip, plus black smoke on the odd occasion I floor the throttle, but at her last MoT I asked about emissions as I was not given the old test results sheet. Tester told me it did not even register on his machine, so she's pretty clean!!

A DPF's job is to remove black soot etc from the exhaust, so if you don't have one, the only place it can leave the exhaust is through the hole at the end. No wonder it had black soot on it?

Yep. My 300 would... Big intercooler, hybrid turbo and fuel pump turned up all contributed to some very dark looks....
