Ive been having thoughts......

I love my CL500, but I kind of miss having the ability to load (garden) stuff to take it to the dump.

I’ve got a trailer too, but the CL was never ‘certified’ for a towbar, and none are listed for fitting, (though I suspect a W220 one would fit) - but then the insurer would no doubt wash their hands.

So, idly, I sometimes look at MLs, .....E class estates..... maybe even a C Class Estate. (V8s):)

I’m really torn....

The CL is sublime, every journey special. .... would any of the above be as good, from the inside, as I know that none of them come close to the beauty of the CL.

2005 CL500.
My CL500 shows that it can tow. The sticker on the drivers door jamb shows weight including trailer as 4440kg.

I found a towbar for the 215. Mine has a towing rating too.

Don’t you have a “Green Bin” ;)

Yes but there is often more than allowed,:- max 3 bags.... (tree trimming, offcuts from building summerhouse, a deck, replacing fencing, (the joy of large garden)

Another option available here is to hire a white van through a local hire company, not one of the big corporate ones, for 1 day that includes a 'permit' to use the local tip. Neighbour did just that the other saturday. We filled it to the gunnels with fencing, shed, old furniture, ballast, cement, steelwork, gym equipment, garden waste from 2 homes.

Perhaps you should move to a more enlightened local authority area that realises we don't all fly tip or run waste creating enterprises in our back garden and that actually encouraging and facilitating people to help themselves and the locale can be done.

This came about from previous draconian roolz that saw local councillors driveways filled with chemical waste by the truckload in protest at idiocy and charge for everything.

We did have roolz on limits of bags and reduction to max 20Kg, only collected part of the year. We now have wheelie bins that hold approx 3/4 of a tonne if you fill them to the brim with dense waste ;):D:cool: on the first fill of the season. Collected fortnightly throughout the year you just have to manage the fill. This means you do little and often to 1 - fill the bin, 2 - keep SWMBO happy that the garden looks nice.

Time for a second (run-a-bout) car , there are loads to choose from and it would keep the CL nice and tidy.

The money that it would cost you to replace the CL with something more practical could be spent on an older estate car or smaller SUV . Ok it would mean two taxes / insurances / MOT`s but it is good to have a car that can be used as a workhorse and you dont need to be too fussy about.

Another plus is that you will appreciate the CL even more after driving a "banger" for a few weeks.
