E350 CDi AMG Night Premium Plus (Sept 2015) with GAD Tuning re-map. Definitely not double badged.
Quick question: I've got new tyres, there's a load of snot inside the wheels from the old balancing weights. Looks like double-sided foam tape.

Is it some special stuff they use, or am I likely able to nuke it with normal cleaning products?

My wheels are painted gloss black with exposed shiny faces. Normal wheel cleaner doesn't do the job but I don't want to damage the paint or clear varnish.

Any advice?

Old credit/store card or as said thumb/finger nails, WD40 usually does the trick failing that I find petrol is very good, try using an old micro fibre cloth as that seams to grip the glue. :)

Halfords and other places sell a product called “Sticky Stuff Remover “ that’s really good.
Just spray it on leave it a couple of minutes and the residue disappears.

And never be tempted to use acetone like I did. It removed the lacquer!!!

You can get many aerosol based adhesive removers. I’ve an orange oil based one that smells great and really gets rid of the sticky stuff.

Brake cleaner is also very good, but as others have said WD40 is good and if you need to leave it for a while try Vaseline, the petrol content in it dissolves the residue very easily and is also easy to get in in the area you want without it going everywhere

Beef casserole (don't knock it until you try it) and that's as a use for John Smiths, NOT applying to wheels, although......

I made use of the last of the summer sun to give the car a VERY good clean for the purposes of getting an extra coat of wax on before the winter. I gave the wheels a VERY good clean as part of this and had a go at attacking some of the old double sided foam. It took long enough for me to decide to leave it until spring. Hopefully some will fall off over the winter.

Early next year I'm planning on taking the wheels off for a spruce up anyway.

I also noticed the tyre fitters have conveniently written OF, NF, OR and NR in some kind of indestructible crayon in my wheel barrels. Could not be shifted by wheel cleaner, citrus degreaser or Karcher so I give up until next year.

It is now winter. Pass the cake.

That “crayon” will come off with petrol or like I said earlier Vaseline, smear it on and leave for 30 minutes, then just wipe off with a damp cloth, 2nd application may be needed if it’s bad but I’ve never had to do more than that before.
