MB E350 CDI (W212)
Hello All,

At this moment my car (E350 CDI) got summer Michelin tyres, the front: 245/35 ZR 19 93Y and the back: 275/30 ZR 19 96Y!

I phoned the MB dealer and asked about winter tyres for this car, they advise me to put 245/40/18 97 W (Michelin Pilot Alpin 5 XL). The question is it possible to put 18 inch wheel while the original 19 inch? All advices will be appreciated.

Kind regards,

Robert

Have a look what is written in the fuel filler cap - that will have the different sized wheels and tyres you can have

You’ll no doubt find them more comfortable than your summer tyres with the larger sidewall.

Try “mytyres” website - you can get a deal on wheels and tyres (it’s where I bought mine from).

I have a E350CDI 212. I have the standard 18" summer set up, my winter wheels are 245/45/17 all round.
Ideally you need the smallest tyres possible to give maximum down weight.
212's except the 350 will accept 16" wheels.

Without new wheels the same I would have thought within '10'width (allowable if smaller so not stretching)

My winters are those on the rears (and up for sale soon)

Cheers Wighty glad you tackled the elephant in the room- I assumed the op wasn’t thinking of just having winters on the back.....one shouldn’t assume, you know what they say...:)

As above , same size tyres , I hadn't grasped that you were not changing wheels in your question (changing wheels is the only way to change tyre size

no its not, the mb owners book states i can fit a winter tyre of 225 40 18 . no need to change the rims. i was just concerned that putting a 225 tyre onto a 8.5j rim as the handbook only states 8j rim .

same as above 17" will fit & possibly 16". you want the narrowest tyre possible for maximum down weight.
Also saves you a fortune in tyre costs.
All the German E class taxis are on 16" winter tyres.

That's a big fat No No buddy , it will mess with the cars safety systems !
It won’t...

As long as the grippier tyres are on the back and the overall diameter is the same then it’s is fine to fit winters just to the back (yes even if just front wheel drive)

It’s always better to fit 4 winters but 2 on the back are better than 4 in the garage...

Most tyre manufacturers explicitly warn against this.
