primary culprit. when was oil/filter last changed on tranny ? as might be tc lock up solenoid/valve where/if fitted . prob worth getting codes read as a starting point with a reader/star that can interpret them.

well ive lost count of the times ive saved this car from the scrap yard so I reckon the customer will roll the dice on a box flush but after that , I don't think he will see the worth in repairing it , thanks for your input ;)

Smart + others :)
If he cars on its last legs, just block the tc solenoid valve. It only increases the revs by a few rpm when in top and will eliminate the judder.

I had a very high mileage w211 e320cdi with a torque converter shudder that I didn't want to spend money on so I bought this

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-Tubes-...642259&hash=item1c92f6d952:g:OBwAAOSwjLVa4j-s

Within a couple of miles the shudder was gone. I'd say it lasted me about six months when the shudder started to creep back in. So I bought another two tubes! I probably went on for about 18 months like this till I ended up changing the TC. The car had about 450k miles on it when I scrapped it. I was doing about 1000 miles a week.

I'm not saying it will work and I've no connection with the company (not even sure if that was the company I bought it from, first result I found on ebay today). However, if it doesn't work, how much have you lost!

We all know this is not the correct way to fix it before anyone has a go at me:)

If its a 211 I'd assume it's a 722.6 box. You're options are limited. Spend £15 on the snake oil I suggested or spend 2k on fixing the car. I'd spend the £15 I suggested and hope for the best. Otherwise, the car is an economic write off. I think if it was a glycol problem you would have experienced it long before now.

Anyway the reason for the problem doesn't help the op. I do serious mileage and I'd suggest trying my fix first. Anyway, best of luck fixing it

At 160k I drained transmission and replaced filter, then flushed a further 6l through the cooler return, which made an instant improvement, and is still (touch wood) ok after a further 6k. Added bonus, the computer shows fuel consumption improved by about 3 mpg, which presumably is because the TC is now locking as it should
