Hello All,

Few days ago, I bought my recent car (350 CDI, 2011) to replace my older car (320 CDI, 2005). On the dashboard of my older car, I could see the amount of fuel in the tank (diesel) in litres while in the new car I can see it as analogue only and not in litres. The question is: Is it possible to program it to get the amount of fuel in litres?

Regards,

Robert

In the meantime visited the MB dealer and asked him the abovementioned question. Unfortunately the answer was "NO", it is not possible to program the fuel meter to give the reading in litres or gallon.

If delaer says "No", it is not neccessarily the whole truth... I would ask some advanced SDS user, is the option available in SDS developer (or Vediamo instead).

Some update, I checked Xentry in simulation mode, indeed there was very little options to instrument cluster overall, no options for display... and I don't have Vediamo so I cannot comment what options it would provide...

Thanks for your efforts. It is pity, digital reading is much easier and pricicer than analog.

Well, my logic to all this is look at fuel gauge. If fuel gauge is over level x, keep driving. If it is below level x then find a petrol station and fill up.

It’s a really good way of doing things. Give it a try, you might like it. In the mean time the tank in a 212 is 80 litres, so you can work out the rest from there.

Why I do like seeing remaining liters? Because fuel gauge resolution is very poor. I know what my car average liter/100km consumption is, so I can calculate much more precicely the range I have left (computer range is crap since it calculates it last, temporary consumption which can be anything between 6-13L/100km)

That’s why there is a fuel gauge which roughly tells you how much is in the tank. If you know that the tank itself is 80 litres, then you know that each quarter is 20. How much more simple do you need it to be? You can ask for a digital printout of remaining litres all you want, but if it can’t be done it can’t be done.

Whether a gauge is analogue or reads in litres it'll still only be a rough idea of what's in the tank. ;) The first half of the fuel gauge on most cars I've had seems to have lasted much longer than the second half :D

It is not a big problem but it is easier to see the amount of the fuel left in liters than guessing. My pervious car was W211 had a digital gauge; it was easier and preciser than this analog.

Today, I had the pointer between the half and quart tank. I filled it with diesel and found out that the tank had 28 liters, while the W211 gave the exact amount directly i.e. before I start filling the tank I knew how many litters I need. Why MB went to the analog from the perfect digital, I don't know?

Kind regards

Robert

The perfect digital readout is only as accurate as its sender

Yours will have the 80 Ltr tank so good for 1200Kms.
The low fuel light comes on with about 80Kms left in the tank.

When the tank is half full/empty (depending on your disposition) fill it up.

Can't get any easier than that.

My 210 and 230 both have gallons left. My 129 simply has a needle on a gauge. I treat them both the same. What does it matter if you drive another 80km before filling up when you have to fill up anyway?
