Indicators & Wipers Not Working? 2008 C Class

Hello All,

My wife's 2008 C Class Estate has developed a problem over the weekend, the indicators & wipers have stopped working, the lights are also constantly on and are unable to switch off using the switch on the side of the dash?

I have taken it to a local garage and they are unable to access the ECU as apparently is 'locked' out as i disconnected the battery (is this right?), they are also saying that after 15 minutes of the car running it switches the engine off?

Has anyone else had this issue? could it be the indicator/wiper stalk thats faulty or is there a relay that controls them?

Any HELP would be greatly appreciated!

Indicator/wiper stalk is a common fault but I don't think it ever affects the lights as well?

Sounds like a front SAM fault to me.

Probably water damage

This is why the garage are unable to communicate with the ECU

After checking fuses, check relay.

I had a similar fault on my GL. It turned out to be water ingress in the rear Sam. I removed the unit stripped it down then cleaned out the unit. I used ambersil contact clean and a paint brush to removed any water or corrosion and left it on a radiator overnight, refitted the next day and everything was working again.
It’s a bit tricky getting the Sam apart but if you put into a dealer they will replace the Sam and charge you a small fortune. Worth a try
