hi

after few - more or less - happy years i plan to replace my current w221 in next few months with another merc...

i'm just really confused about prices which i see on autotrader and similar pages... they much lower than i expect...

my car is 61 plate 350 bluetec with nearly 150k miles, have cat D as it was in small accident have pic nothing major mostly arch in past before i bought it also is poor spec without many toys so value of it is really low....

i was wondering is anyone bought or sold recently similar car and what was final price for it and how long it takes?

my other option is break it for parts ( i done that in past with other cars) i know it can be pain with some costumers but can sell on here, on ebay, on facebook everything which have some value then scrap shell, that need some effort and time but can be cash rewarding...

car in general is ok so it will be shame to sell it for peanuts also coz i replace few expensive things in it...

what you guys think is that worth to break it ? just to organize as much is possible of it towards new car....

thanks

Seems a bit harsh to break a 8 year old MB. There has got to be somebody out there for it surely ? :) Hasn't done mega miles  There are people on here with higher mileage than that and their car has loads more life in it, so it should be quite a saleable car :)

Unfortunately it's a big engined 8 year old chugger with a, buyers perception, high mileage and a CAT D to boot, it wont be worth much IMO :(

Can’t think why to bother selling it? Perceived value in sale or trade- negligible, value to keep running and look like a millionaire -high......is it just me?

Never a good move financially to sell and buy unless it’s a house of course. The market always dictates a price the only way to see what it’s worth is to try to sell it, if it’s well kept and presented it should make at least median money in its price band, you just have to realistic if it needs work doing and if everything works well advertise the fact

I'd stick a private plate on it (if it hasn't already) and keep driving it :)

hi again
thank to all of you for your answers

i want to change it coz i drive this for few years and already have few big problem such as amplifier which cost me over £1k to fix also with time and mileage can be another problems such as airmatic etc and im not 100% trust to this car that things like amplifier not fail again etc..

also i was thinking go more for 2 door coupe with petrol engine and more top end spec

cat D was for minor cosmetic damage but is still on record and that put price massive down

i think realistic i can get £6k cash but that seems not to much for car like this
coz of cat D value as px is low
webuyanycars give me cash for happy meal in mc donald so that is off the table

i was considering breaking coz looks like some parts have high value and probably i can easy get more than £6k that way but it will be a bit of work...

keep it and driving is still option but as i said i don't trust this car 100% with ticking bombs such as amplifier etc plus after few years i will be fancy for change for something newer shape...

Understand the amplifier but you don’t have to stay oem
Airmatic? Pretty reliable and relatively cheap as chips to fix
Any replacement might cost you much more , still don’t get it !

Airmatic on them is cheap to fix as its the bags not the entire strut.
An amp is not gonna kill your car.
At that age and car its one to keep on the road and its not broke in yet.

Keep it and drive it. If something expensive goes wrong with it do a basil Fawlty on it (will make you feel good) then break it for spares?

I have virtually the same car but with 55K on the clock. I had only had one minor issue in 7 years ownership.
I have absolutely no intention of selling mine.
