Hello all,

New to the MB scene and have just picked up a 2011 E250 CDI Estate in Tenorite Grey- what a car!
I find the 7G gearbox a bit sluggish sometimes, but overall a comfortable cruiser, with huge loadspace and plenty of grunt, but best of all it regularly delivers over 53mpg!

Now I just need to figure out how I trade up to an E63...…!

Thanks to all for the warm welcome - hopefully will get to meet up with few of you at a local meeting sometime, looks like there's a regular one near Dursley (Glos) every month, which is only half an hour away from me.

Hi Sonic, thanks for the comment, yes I've tried it a few times - it seems to speed the gearbox up nicely, but it also moves the shift threshold further up the rev range, making it a pit 'peaky' - it might just be that I need to get used to how it works and change my driving style a bit - I can always use the paddles if i'm feeling racey!

The 7 speed is not the smoothest, mine is a bit clunky 2 to 1 when cold. The old 5 speed was smoother, drove a C300 last week with the 9 speed very smooth.

The 9G is smooth as silk, hope it turns out to be long term reliable as well as I’d like another one in the future.

I don't ever bother with the paddles, I find the response isn't quick enough.. I think I am too used to the double clutching box of the DSG in my old GTI Golf, which was a great box.
