Just wanted to put the question out there on the real world fuel economy on the W211 and see how they all compare!
I have a W211 05 E270 and currently im achieving 41mpg over 1,000 miles.
My current commute to work is around 27 miles each way and the route (if you're familiar with the midlands) is from Rugby, Up the the M6 then A14 off at Junction 1 on the A14 then basically 60mph roads all the way until 3 miles from work where there is a village. So mixed driving i would say the most ive ever got on a long journey is 54mpg on the way to cornwall!
Just interested how the rest of the CDI engines stack up in comparison to mine! :)

I’d say that’s pretty decent. I averaged (on fuel not the pack of lies that is the trip computer) over 36mpg in a W211 E320 CDI (V6) for nearly 100k miles

36mpg over 100k miles!! Thats pretty dam good to be fair especially from the V6! Is that similar driving conditions as me?
Also how much of a liar is the trip computer....
Ive been basing my results of that!

It’s somewhat optimistic... I did some short commuting (6 miles) and a lot of long runs.

I had a CLK270CDI, used to get about 48MPG. Had a rural 10 miles run to work with very little traffic. Not used much round town, used the wife's SLK.But on holiday touring Europe it would see 50MPG.

My w211 320cdi (straight six) returns a solid 38mpg on my 11 mile commute. I regularly take it on a longer run to Rye, 76 miles each way, and I have seen 45mpg on that route. Interestingly when the weather is colder you can reduce those numbers by 3. The thermostat is perfect and she runs at the correct temperature whether the weather is hot or cold, she just takes longer to get there when it's cold. 140,000 miles on her, most relaxing car to drive that I own. Short of a loaner this week, I lent it to a customer while his R231 was in for service. He remarked what a comfortable old bus she was to drive! I laughed, but told him he'll be back in the Corolla torture chamber next time, this was a one-off!

Gratuitous pic of the dear old gal. Best £1000 I've ever spent!

All fill to fill measures, not the trip computer
CLK270 manual box - 10mile each way commute, light traffic, some longer runs 50mpg - about 60k
CLS320 V6 auto box - 10mile each way commute, light traffic, some longer runs 35mpg - about 40k
E320 IL6 auto box - 1.3mile each way commute, light traffic, some longer runs 31mpg - about 8k so far

Average 43.8 mpg over 2 years of data collection from receipts and put through an app called fuelio.

Cruising back from Wales in the setting sun, doing 56mph (gps) managed to get the on board computer to display just over 60mpg (hi score)

Regularly get 50+ mpg on runs up to Lincolnshire & back, 3 up, boot fully loaded.

Interesting! I will have to do mine more accurately because ive only been using the trip computer!
So my car is about in the middle where it should be! I am supprised the E320cdi isnt that much far behind my E270 though!
@PovertySpec, 60mpg thats pretty insane, the closest i ever had was 57mpg but obviously this was going down a hill after resetting the trip computer :D

If you're going to use the additional power it will drop the economy...

It shouldn't make the economy worse (unless it's a bad map...) but it won't improve it either (it might show an improvement on the computer as the map makes it lie even more...). It should improve the driving experience and response though.

I wouldn't say it was accurate accurate, it was just a game of what if. Still sunny evening, it kept going up by .1 so I slowed it down to 56 GPS sat it on the cc, turned the AC off and went for the hi-score:)

About a mile later I had to turn off so just one of those things.
