Hi I have an engine light on and the fault code says the Hot film MAF Sensor short circuit to earth. So is this the MAF that needs changing or the wiring harness chaffing? I have looked at the harness, but nothing is obvious. Is there a certain place where this is known to happen?

How many coloured wires can you see going to the MAF sensor ?

Unplug the MAF and see if the fault changes.

No, but the fault code (if cleared) may then change to ‘open circuit’. Which would point to the sensor being at fault.

Thank you. I will do that.

Ok cleared the faults. The light has gone out. Started the car, the light is still out. Checked again for faults, non. Disconected the MAF ran the car, the light is still off, but on checking faults I have P200A-B2/5 (Hot Film MAF) short circuit to ground/open Circuit in wiring (P0102)
I think this one was there before. The thing is that this is an intermittant fault and now it is cleared may not reappear for days or weeks, but with my MoT next week I didn't want it coming on before then and I also need to fix this.

You need to clear the fault after you unplug the MAF and see if it comes back.

Ok unplugged MAF, Cleared faults. Started car. Checked faults. P200A-B2/5 (Hot Film MAF) short circuit to ground/open Circuit in wiring (P0102). Cleared fault connected MAF, started the car, checked faults. No faults, but as I said this is an intermittant fault and now that it is cleared may not reappear for days or weeks.

I have just bought a new breather pipe as it is recommended that you change this when changing the MAF. I have noticed that the old pipe is very slack and soft. Could this be also causing a problem with the MAF?

I have now changed the MAF. It was not as difficult as I thought, I've cleared the faults and now hope for the best. One thing that is strange, is that the new MAF had a tiny Resistor? between the two pegs in the photo. The photo is of the old one that doesn't have this.
