Used to have a C63...
It's AWD not 4x4 but I got a set of winter tyres for wife's VW Tiguan in order to do the best I could to avoid such embarrassment.

Last winter I had to do a 10 mile cross-country 'dash' on snow covered ungritted roads when our local train station was closed and it's easy to see how people get caught out - starting and stopping was not far off normal. Cornering was a different matter altogether - it either under-steered tremendously or the whole car tried to slide sideways.

Ya cannay change the laws of physics!

I must admit, travelling in the north of Scotland anytime it starts to snow, the first vehicle you see that's left the road and is sitting beeched in a field is usually a Range Rover.

Preliminary scheduled for this Saturday ... if the weather forecast is to be believed.
Might try to take a couple of pics, if the car is washed by then (highly doubtful).
;)

Up here it’s only the real Land Rover products (and I include Range Rovers in that) that can move when the white stuff comes down. The electronics in RR’s work very well. X5’s and Q7’s haven’t a hope.

No, but you hear people talk about a "night and day" difference between summer and winter tyres. Thinking about it, I've also driven another car on full winter tyres and I had a 'moment' in that when I needed to tighten a turn but nothing dramatic yet the car just carried straight on.

And the lack of electronics in Defenders work best of all!

I've had winters for a few years now , I store them in the garage all cleaned and waxed and ready to go .
I change them over myself anytime October/November to March/April .
My clever plan is to pick a warm sunny day to swap them over or at least a dry one . This year I'm going to do a brake fluid change as I go round the car changing wheels .
It's also a good time to spray some acf50 over any brake pipes in the wheel wells .
My E class has sensor arms for the self levelling headlights , one in the drivers side arch and one by the differential , so I slap a load of grease onto them as well .
Wighty, thats about the same as me.

I do like big heavy bits of metal moving when I move the levers. :)

I’ve just bought a CLS shooting brake and the standard 19” wheels seem enormous..so have found some 18s on eBay as apparently 17s don’t fit the car (according to the book) - need a pair of new tyres on them at least but no all seasons available in 19”

so a set of 18” (still too big imo for snow) AMG wheels for £350 :)

I agree, the electronics on them are exceptional, but on summer tyres in snow they don't stop well or go around corners much with owners who think they are invincible.

It's always the owners... knew a guy who said his Disco 4 was terrible on ice and snow - he hand't changed the driving mode - switched it to loose surface (gravel/ice/snow) and it would then go anywhere - RTFM...

Land Rovers off road programs are second to none. Absolutely incredible what can be done in a properly driven Disco/RR with all the electronics.

Will see what a tiny Merc with FWD and quality winter tyres (Michelin Alpin A4 MO) can do ... quite soon by the look of it ... :p

For me, when a respectable amount of snow is predicted and I know that I can't make do on my usual UHP tyres.

Also, a second set of alloy wheels with winter tyres is best in my experience as you can change them easily at home as you see fit and you can shod those with full on winter rubber rather than a compromised set (again depending on your requirements).
