Hi guys..
I'm new to mercedes but have had a number of german cars.. I've bought this car (2005 a170 avantgarde) for the missus as a nice run around.. I already love the car.. it's got a nice feel to it for being such a small car.. good fun on a twisty country road.. nice change to my 5 series..
I've had a scour of the net looking for the common issues with these motors but haven't found anything serious for them.. mine has 65000 miles on it and is In cracking condition.
The issues i have found seem quite common. Rain sensor is very sensitive, timing chain rattles on startup, ping ing sound from the anti roll bar I think when reversing on full lock.. bit of a spongy clutch but no slipping..
Rain sensor is probably due to a windscreen change, timing chain is the tensioner, anti roll bar pinging is apparently a common issue linked to low tyre tread ( not convinced on this one ), hoping the spongy clutch will be resolved with a hydraulic fluid change..
I'm hoping to take full advantage of the knowledge on this forum.. I'm handy with cars and always begrudge going to a mechanic to fix issues.
Any tips, tricks or common issues then please let me know.. im a great believer in preventative maintenance..
