Well I think the actual figures posted above at #99 confirm my figures, if a 40kW boiler (Existing) is raising the water body temp by 1°C in 2 Hours it would take twice the energy to raise the temp in one Hour X 10 for a 10°C increase, there was a typo in my last post actually it should read 10 Hours not days but would still require a c72kWH source.

That would be a moot point ajlsl600, with Electricity currently around 5 x the cost of Gas per kWH, depending on where you are in the UK it would need a thorough investigation to reach a conclusion, and the initial investment I suspect would be prohibitive?

ok i am not a fundi on pools but its about the best way right now to help heat my house if i proceed next spring. i esp if its a self install ,i am not in the uk. i am not expecting to stop oil use,i am expecting to substantially reduce oil use ... my rads are over spec,ed so with a buffer tank and some sweat i expect to be able to install for under 7to 8k if that reduces my oil burn by 1000 E i am expecting a 10yr payback and with maintenance, replacement should be beyond my concern

Well I'm sure you've done your homework, Oil can't be a cheap fuel wherever in the world you are, and with a dual fuel installation you will have the added benefit of a backup if one fails for any reason!

Looks like I'm with gas till Jeremy tells me to get me on Electric or tells me to shut it down.

Then I will have to revisit solar, thanks everyone.

If Dyson mades car they would be ;

Overpriced.
Garish.
Flimsy.
A triumph of expensive design over cheap manufacturing.
A plethora of filters and seals with the life and strength of a butterfly.
Instantly trendy on bookface with snowflakes.
Theoretically wonderful.
Practically a nuisance.

Not up my drive
