Mercedes A Class 2019
Hello,

I currently have a Mercedes A Class 2019, around the windows I have a metal trim going around the edges which have small marks/ milky dots on them. (please click images below.)

Would anyone able to advice me of what needs to be done please?

Help would be very much appreciated :)

As per other thread, under warranty so the dealer is where you need to be.

Having said that, what are you using to wash the car with? Acids and alkalis can do quite a lot of damage (which Mercedes wouldn’t be interested in fixing)

Very common sadly !
2:1 vinegar and water mix ( or Lemon juice/water), spray on then wipe off with a paper towel and polish with a microfibre cloth or soak one microfibre in the solution wipe onto the area and polish with a clean one .
Water spotting with hard water is annoying !!

What causes that to happen? I went to the Mercedes Dealer near me and the cars in there have them too! Very strange to what they use to wash the cars with!

It's hard water spots. If the water dries in the sun before being wiped dry with a microfibre towel, water spots are the result.
Shows up badly on darker colours. MB won't be interested in your issue.

TFR too strong probably .

But great if hard water spots as diluted acid as above will be the answer .

It is. I got a price from MB for the black painted trim down the side of my windscreen after a monkey at a Knowsley took a liking to it. £85

I’m sure you can get a solution to remove the water spots no?

Machine polish?

I’ve used it before and it does, depending how long it’s been left for really. Both things contain acetic acid which is relatively mild but effective.I’m also remembering Raceglaze ( sponsors on here) had a solution too in a thread some time back?

When I had some similar marks , I used a small amount of electrical contact cleaner spray on a cloth to wipe over it , came off immediately (in my case)

Your first picture in post 1 looks like you still have the factory thin plastic coating on the trim , as though it should be peeled off ??? Don't just go and pull it all , but it looks like the removable coat on a new number plate ?

John Laidlaw put me on to this, i went on Raceglaze website and they have a product specifically for the milky chrome problem called called Hindsight trim cleaner,
here's a before and after pic of trim done with this.
20191022_122115.jpg Very tempted to send for some at £18.99
