Anyone know a decent Mercedes Mechanic in the Leicester area?

Hi,

As the title suggests my dads car developed an oil leak last week it's a Mercedes A150, he took it to one of his mates who's a mechanic and was told the timing belt tensioner is f****d. Upon closer inspection he said the timing chain tensioner has been grinding away at the engine block and it's going to require the engine to be taken out completely and sent off to some specialist to have it grinded down and then a new timing tensioner installed. Not sure how true what he is saying is but he's telling us it's gonna cost upwards of £800 to £1000 which we simply can't afford.

I know this is a shot in the dark but does anyone know of any good mechanics in the Leicester area who would take on this kind of work?

My dad uses the cars for deliveries so he really needs it back up and running ASAP.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but these a class petrols go through timing chains...

I assume the quote you had is for a new chain and tensioner. If so that's pretty reasonable.

Unfortunately the timing chain on these engines sees many of these scrapped, as you can pick up another similar car for not a lot more..

I used to travel to Garage 786 to maintain my Supra and they also specialise in BMW. Whilst there many a time, they have enough Merc's in and offer an ethical service (decent work and sensible rates).

I would not hesitate to try them and can recommend them also although, I think I agree with Jay's post - get another car.

I've used MB Automotive in Loughborough before, and they seemed genuine. Didn't know what was needed before I went in. Phoned and explained what they thought was the best, most affordable option. Carried out the work as they recommended. Problem sorted (along with service and MOT).
