I wonder what driving around on a flat tyre at full lock does to the tyre and rims (esp front).

You could always carry one of these in the boot;

Which why its a good idea to make sure your wheels come off easily on your drive rather than a cold wet hard shoulder ;)

I wonder how many people ever bother to lube their hubs.

It has happened to me at 2 in the morning in a reasonably new car <4 years (not a puncture - I hit a kerb :(). Had to abandon the car and get the AA out the next day.

There is a simple 3rd option, smear duralac around the contacting surfaces.
Would say this is the correct product to use as it is an anti corrosive jointing compound to inhibit electrolytical corrosion between dissimilar metals.
It works superbly between aluminium and stainless in a salt water environment so would have no trouble with steel and ally.
Can use it on brake pads to stop them sticking to the pistons.

Insurance:
Periodically, especially before going on holiday (!), slacken all bolts on a wheel and drive a metre or two, then retighten. Repeat for all four wheels. By 'slacken' I mean just nip each bolt loose - maybe less than quarter turn.
This will break the seal between wheel and hub.

I tend to paint a smear of anti-seize on the face of the hub too ..... by rights you shouldn't grease wheel bolts/nuts, but I give them a wipe of anti-seize too as in the past I've struggled to remove bolts/nuts on cars where they've been dry & rusty.

Been using a light smear of copper grease on hubs and wheel studs ive known to give me problems for years now and ive had no safety issues yet but im not running no supercars:D

Or you just pump that gunk into the wheel....:mad:. Both our cars have no spare.....
The thought's of that would genuinely frighten me.......No way Jose !!! I'm skeptical of even using these mickey mouse " Space saver Mini-Wheel's ". I grew up in a time where given the condition of the roads....the only thing better than one spare wheel, was two spare wheel's !!! skinny space saver's or compressed gunk in tin's , just don't cut it for me.:mad:

cheaper and a cut made based on that and likelihood of use.methinks? B/A to do with progress. i once saw a car running around Nairobi on 4 spacer savers ,very smug looking local, look at me ,no punctures expression.

I still do not "grease/moly slip/copper lube/aluminium paste" on my hubs:). I always drive fairly new cars and would just call out MB breakdown. I only have a goop & compressor kit in both our MBs.:D
