For some reason, my offside wing mirror has gone floppy.

It folds in fine, but then stays in when the other side moves out and if I move it with my hand it moves freely without being locked in place.

Given that there's geared teeth in there I'm reluctant to do too much without seeking advice first !

Cheers

Jonny

My old CLS had this prob, I would have folded them in when in tight traffic flows and sometimes my drivers side wouldn't open out again. Luckily it was the drivers side so it was easy to give it a slight nudge when operating the button and it would activate OK. Plenty of lube on the teeth helps but mine was diagnosed as the motor on it's way out.

Thanks Austy - is lubing a case of popping the mirror glass off or whole unit dismantled ?

Not sure on your particular model, on the CLS it was possible to bend the mirror back the wrong way if you catch my drift, towards the front of the car, that exposed some of the running gear and it was just a matter of spraying the lube in and working the mirror back and forth. TBH I had a heart palatation when I saw my indy doing this as I didn't know they could be folded forwards lol I do the same on my E class now although the running gear is well enough exposed when folded in normally.

Thanks Austy - mirror glass pops off easily enough, so will have a gander at the weekend.

It might also be worth checking that the hinge pins have not worked loose causing the gears to misalign.
