I have just been playing (as one does) with the car configurator on the M-B website, building an E400d estate that might tickle my fancy. Only... it didn't.
I thought I would stick with the regular model rather than the All-Terrain and see what choices I could have. It was pretty fabulously equipped as standard, but I could add the 'Driver Assistance Package' for £1695 - seemed like a good idea. Everything else equipment-wise was included really.
But the disappointments came when it transpired that you can't order AirBody Control (airmatic) - at all.
The next disappointment was that there was no choice of interior - black artico & microfibre was all you could have. No real leather. No colour choice at all.

No wonder I can't see any of these on the secondhand market with light interiors. MB won't sell you one.

You can have a choice of interiors in the All-Terrain model bizarrely.

Such a shame - and something that may force us to look at All-Terrains (even though I don't care for the faux body protectors) or a BMW or the like when it comes to time to change our workhorse.

So true. I did contemplate an E Class and surprised at the lack of options for the interior colours, leather etc.. not sure what Mercedes marketing/product design team are thinking

The worst thing is that the website shows photos of cars with light interiors and you know other markets can have them...

That is lovely. And could we fit the tow bar on it for the caravan? And load the dogs in the back? And carry the firewood (see my profile photo)?

You can get a tow bar for the W222, aftermarket costs a few bob, the W223 can have one from the factory for a lot less. The weight limit is reduced from when I had a W221, hence my current W166. However, I understand your caravan is lighter than mine so shouldn't be a problem towing it. I had a similar light colour scheme in my W221, lovely colour scheme.

In respect of the firewood, the W222 has a large boot. Fit a liner and bumper fold down mat thing and it'll be right.

In respect of the dogs, they'll fit in the rear seats that on a LWB version, recline making it more comfy for them.

You could, given some lateral thinking, get a small trailer for the firewood and the dogs :geek::rolleyes::D:cool:. I picked up an Erde 141 c/w extension sides, soft lid and other bits for £80 on the bay of dreams.

I like 'some' of your thinking here... :D
There are times when I would cheerfully consign the whining dog at least to a trailer. However, storing a trailer when not in use would be a pain.

My trailer is stored by being stood on it's end, upright and against the house wall. You wouldn't know it was there.

Where there is a will, there is a way.

How old is the dog, will it be around long?

Trailers have been discussed at our house before.
Two dogs, 7 and 9ish, hope for them to be around for some considerable time to come! They (and their predecessors) are the only reason we got a caravan.

I must say I have to take exception at your signature "Currently too many cars: Porsche 997.2 GT3, Porsche 996 Turbo, MGB, MG Midget, Honda Jazz & E350CDI"

"Barely sufficient cars to function: Porsche 997.2 GT3, Porsche 996 Turbo, MGB, MG Midget, Honda Jazz & E350CDI"

Is how I'd phrase it... :D:p:cool:

:D:geek: We don't really have enough room for them all. The Turbo has to live outdoors. In the spring, the Jazz might mutate into a Civic Type R (the newest one, wings and all).

I used to have 5 cars on the drive and 3 motorbikes and a trailer in the garage. My 911 used to live outside with the Smart car parked in front of it (by 1"). I could get 3 wide on the drive and still close the electric gates so looked like a small off-site airport parking setup :D:p:cool:
I intend to get back to more of a fleet soon :)
