We were very careful when driving the GT3 in the pouring rain in the Black Forest and in some slushy snow in the Austrian Tyrol during our trip in September, in deference to the Cup2 tyres. Other than that, we enjoyed every minute and felt secure the whole time. Previous similar trips in the Turbo were just as confidence inspiring.

I remember encountering a 911 Turbo on the A623 near Tidewell during a blizzard. It was a 4wd variant and was unable to climb the slight incline out of Tideswell towards Peak Forest. My S70 T5 on Summer tyres simply drove straight up.

911 4x4 isn’t for traction on snow... I’d suggest it was also not on suitable tyres for the conditions

My 210 encountered the most modest of rises in the road with snow on it a few years back, "Bambi" skidded and refused to climb it, I had to turn round.
After that I bought myself a set of crossclimate tyres and they have successfully warded off snow ever since, they are a technological miracle.

My W210 was the same, I had to turn the traction off and then fishtail like mad to get up the smallest incline to a roundabout in North Wales.

We are waiting for the Goodyear Eagles on our S212 to wear out so that we can get CrossClimates on - they are stubbornly lasting too well (despite my spinning the rears regularly).
The 996turbos usually run Conti SportContacts or Michelin PilotSport2, neither of which are designed for snow! The Michelin Pilot Sport Cup2s on the GT3 are a semi-track tyre, a third of the surface is effectively slick and they don't work in low temperatures.

You've seen our road Russell, last year my 210 coped with the snow with no issues whatsoever (even on our cul de sac)

Bambi and her new boots remain untested, the youth at the time sat very unimpressed as I was supposed to be dropping him off at a friends.
His salvation arrived courtesy of a friend who saw us slipping around, he took him in his suitably tyred posh Range Rover and I slunk off back home,

another significant parenting failure no doubt clocked up for when it's time to choose my nursing home.

Ice cars have had 100 yrs to get to where they are now.
The Electric car is still in its infancy yet already is faster than any ice engine around the Nürburgring and up Pikes Peak.
The electric will soon dominate virtually every race, leaving the ice to have their own "vintage" races ?
All it needs is a longer lasting power source (which im sure is only just around the corner) and then what of the ice car?

Electric cars have been around longer than internal combustion engine powered ones, in fact the first wheel driven land speed record holders for 100 & 200 km/h are electric and steam powered!

I didn't know that and no reason to doubt the valid point. Thing is though - I don't think EVs got much of a look in until recent batter developments made them feasible.
