The joint is pressed in, it can be done on the car in half an hour with the right tool, you can get it on that auction site, this is the one I have, item number 262781486151, it's not too expensive, probably cheaper than the labour. You will need a ball joint separator, and some ear plugs for when it releases, replace the other side while your at it too.

Thank you. I have ordered one. Why the earplugs?

Good luck with this . I hope it works out for you. Its not as simple as the you tube video. Give yourself a few hours . Just parting the arm from the ball joint can be a task n a half.alot easier on a ramp ,i did both sides lying on concrete pavements.

interested to see if it is upto the task ?

They are good for a few uses. The cups are pretty much ko'd on mine after fitting 3 ball joints.

That tool does'nt look like it is up to the job to be honest. Put it this way you cannot press a lower ball joint in using the weight of the car, that is how much force is needed to install and remove them (on a w201 anyway)
I removed and installed mine using a hand press but it was custom made by a fabricator and was extremely sturdy. Also if the cups are poor quality you run the risk of nipping the ball joints rubber boots and rendering them junk. I would take it to a garage to remove and press in if i was you.

I bought a similar tool for doing the rangeys rear rose joints , the bearings shattered first time out so I still had to strip it down and use a press :rolleyes::rolleyes:

Well I've used that a could of times, like I say it took me half an hour to do each side, no bother with it, and it still looks new.
