C200d/2015/???
Hi all,

Just put a deposit down on a 1.6 C200d manual (2015).

After some research I found out its a renault engine.

Im not a badge snob or anything but wondering what peoples take on this is?

And also if anyone who has got or had one, what was your experience like?

Thanks in advance,
Chris

Not got/had one so can't comment. However shared power plants are common these days so I wouldn't worry. My car shares its engine with a Chrysler :(

^ this. I don’t believe there is anything wrong with the engine but a Mercedes with a manual box..

it will be a similar unit to the one in my citroen , its very economical , has been reliable so far , is a decent little performer so I wouldn't be too concerned , engine sharing is common place these days a la seat / audi/ VW / skoda

The sharing across the ones you listed is different to Mercedes and Renault. The ones you listed are all part of the same group, whereas Mercedes and Renault are doing it as cost cutting exercise.

I suppose no different in a way, just one lot being the VAG group, the other two just a partnership.

Engine sharing has been common place ever since engines where designed especially from the 40's right up to now, Rolls/Bentley Austin/Morris Ford/Mazda Volvo/Renault to name a few, even car bodies were shared between Chev/Pontiac/Dodge/Chrysler/ just different front and rear designs kept them apart in the 50's/'60's ;)

yeah its all about costs in the end pal , just annoying that a Renault engined MB costs more to have serviced at MB than it would at Renault

There don't seem to be many scare stories about Renault 1.5 diesels in Meganes and the like. However, they are 1.5s - is it the same engine? Personally, I would hold out for a C220d with an auto gearbox - Mercedes built.

I had a 1.8 Renault and it was unbelievably reliable for the 85,000mls I had the car, my Daughter in law has a 1.5 Renault and has had no issues with the engine at all. ;)
