on the glow plug control box (aka relay) they get superseded, get old stock and it'll come out lower than one they just made.
bearing in mind the 12 year old one had HW and SW version from 2004, a 2010 or 2014 version is unlikely to do much other than be better than the worn out original
when I put one in my father's v6 tractor there seemed to be at least 5 versions between the one I fitted and the one it had, seems to drive just the same before and after, it probably just gets a more accurate die age built in
these where the bits I noticed when sourcing one on his e280 cdi v6 the 900 looks different to the 153 ones but all plugs in and works the same, but do need to reroute a cable so it fits a bit better
A642 153 0379 SW10/04 HW01/04
A642 153 2079 SW40/05 HW01/04
A642 900 5801 SW22/12 HW17/10
A642 900 7801 SW26/14 HW20/14
I really need to do mine , its never had one in over 2 years or more that ive owned itIt doesn't, you have to periodically run the update tool which itself gets updated (3.13) from time.
Sorry on late quote having a had recently similar thing with indy specialist .took my lovely 2005 270clk to him with a problem and without leaving office told me to run it till it stops throw it away and save my money for something newer.I left at that point . It is old but I like it and will get it sorted ,getting some help from forum on another thread. Clearly doesn't need the work !Also while I was at the indie last Thursday I waited for the Star Diagnostic to be done as I didn't want to pay for a taxi home only for them to call me with a price to fix that I couldn't afford, I live in a rural area so getting a taxi is expensive and hard to get.
I was listening to conversations going on and it seemed there was a new girl and she was talking to the service manager about doing an invoice, overheard him say yes it is 4 x injectors.
When he told me that there was no codes from the Star and that I need to bring it back for a cold start test I reminded him that I told him this was what was happening and that my local garage had done tests and found 2 injectors faulty which I had him fit and no codes showing.
He then said, talking about the invoice I overheard about the 4 injectors for another customer, we would replace all as the others could fail in a week , mine is a V6 so if I had taken initially to them they would have quoted to replace 6 injectors which I said to him and he agreed.
Is it me or is that like having a tyre blow out and replace all 4 just in case the other 3 might do the same in a week? Local garage said that yes other injectors can go faulty a week later but they can also go on for years. Even to have the option would be nice but indie said that it is their policy to replace all.
On the Indies literature they boast that they are the largest independent in the UK for car and commercial, while sat there I did feel like a bit of a small fry while wagons where coming in out and got the impression that they couldn't be bothered with something as trivial as my car unless I was going to hand over wads of cash.
Also forgot to mention on the parking sensors that they found that the outer 2 rear parking sensors are at fault, my local garage had said this to me but he said he wasn't 100% sure. Local garage said to buy a couple from Ebay which are under £10 each, said he would need to drop the bumper and said he would do it for £80, also said he had a spray touch up so I wouldn't need that.
Indie quoted me £341 to do.
Wish I had bought the iCarsoft now as the money spent on the Star and taxi's would have nearly paid for it, £72 for the Star and £42 in taxi's to be told what my local garage had told me .
I bought one from UK Parts Direct a few weeks ago and it needed updating out of the box but easy to do, log on to the site, find the update link, plug in the iCarsoft and in a few minutes it's downloaded.Thank you once again for your prompt reply.
I bought it only a couple of months ago and it was advertising that is up to date and this is why I didn’t bother to update it myself.
I will try to update it today and have another go. I will let you know. Many thanks.
