R230 SL500 - oh yeah!
Just wondering - what do the 'Comfort' and 'Sport' settings in the R230 actually do? I mean I know overall what they do, but does anyone know specifically what they alter and by how much?

They adjust the damping, roll and pitch settings of the ABC
In comfort body roll is limited to 1.25 degrees. In sport it's limited to 0.75 degrees. Similar for pitch.

Huge gearbox and throttle response difference in the R231, totally transforms the performance...

Mercedes SL500 R231
231 is a totally different car.
To be honest the difference between ABC Sport being on or off isn't massive and unless you look for it you may not even notice (other than being firmer over bigger bumps).

Yes, thanks was aware of that - was wondering about the R230. Does the 2014 SL500 have the 7G or the 9G?

I hated the 7G on my R172 SLK350.

The damper and pitch settings I can understand, but there also seems to be difference in the way the gears change, pulling away from lights etc.

2005 CL500.
What does winter/summer refer to here?
Winter /standard (not summer) refers to the gearbox settings. Starts in second in winter and different ratios, even in reverse. And different change points. At least that's what it was in my 210.

Exactly this.
In winter mode the gearbox changes up earlier, down later, slurs changes more and starts in second (and uses a taller reverse gear).

You can see the W/S button for the gearbox at the front left of the gear selector. The ABC Sport button is the front right of the group surrounding the mirror controls.

Thanks for the explanation and the pics. On my car there is no W/S setting. Where the W/S button is in the pic there is a S/C setting only.

Ah yours must be a later one. Do you have the ABC Sport button too?

Has the winter button become redundant (car must be smart enough to register ambient temp) ---just wondering----In C and CV mine pulls off in 2nd. I had the winter button (looked like a snowflake) in my BMWs 20 years ago.
