If Brian is willing/able to tie the box to a pallet then a courier should be cheaper than the fuel bill to Devon & back. Or worst case scenario similar price but you don't need to find the time/right off a full (and very long) day. Either way a quick look around the internet should confirm, as said, the price Brian is asking is very low i.e. delivered to your door probably still less than a box sourced locally?

In theory what gets drained out of the sump could be poured back in again to drive/limp the thing away until another box is sourced. In practice unless he's set up to pump the fluid out into a clean container it's probably cheaper to top up (dropping the sump doesn't drain the whole box) with fresh fluid given London labour rates vs the £/litre of cheap dextron II in trade quantities?2. Automatic Man in Acton drove the car and said he'd like to drop the sump to see the condition of the fluid before committing to what needs doing. This is said is done without charge! Very decent of him I think, if a little onerous.
Q: does dropping the sump mean renewing the transmission fluid?
